Won't a steel roof attract lightning?
No, steel roofs do not attract lightning, but they can be hit by it. Lightning is
attracted to the highest object in an area, not necessarily to metal. But should lightning
strike, a steel roof may be safer for your household. A metal roof will help conduct and
dissipate the electrical charge. Also keep in mind that a steel roof is non-combustible so
if it were hit, there is less danger of fire.

Will a steel roof become damaged by hail?
Steel roofing systems are very strong and durable. In most cases steel roofing is not
damaged by hail. It will not crack, spall or break when struck by hail, as would other
roofing materials. Formed profiles like tile, shake, slate or asphalt will hide the minor
cosmetic damage that may result from severe hail storms.

Will having a steel roof mean more noise during hard rains?
Steel roofing installed on top of the roof decking above your insulated attic space will
probably not even be noticed in a hard rain. This is a common misperception associated
with older metal sheds and exposed barn roofing.

How much does steel roofing cost?
Because of the great variety in steel roofing, costs can range from slightly higher than
premium asphalt roofing materials to more expensive if you choose a decorative profiles
resembling tile or slate. However, these more decorative profiles usually cost less than
the products they are made to resemble. Also, consider the life of the roofing material
when asking about costs. Considered in light of the life and maintenance of the average
roof, you'll find steel roofing very cost competitive.

Can I use steel roofing on an older house?
Yes. In fact, steel roofing is so lightweight it may not be necessary to
"tear-off" your old roof. Instead it can be installed right over your existing
roof. Regardless of the age of your home, a steel roof can be installed to restore a
particular look or to update that look.
