 Commercial
Products
What is Commercial Quality (CQ)? ASTM A366
This product may be used for moderate deformation without a great degree of ductility. The
product normally has a 0.15% max. carbon content and normally has a max. Rockwell
"B" of 60 at time of shipment. It may be necessary to roller level just before
fabrication.

What is Drawing Quality (DQ)? ASTM A619
This product may be used for severe forming and has relatively good uniform drawing
properties. The product normally has a 0.10% max. carbon content. It may be necessary to
roller level just before fabrication.

What is Drawing Quality Special Killed (DQSK)? ASTM
A620
This product should be used when severe drawing or forming is required to successfully
make a part successfully. Normally, this steel is stable, will not stretcher strain or
flute and will not undergo the phenomenon of aging.

What is aging?
Aging is a phenomenon in which the atomic makeup of a non-stable steel undergoes changes
over time with the result that the mechanical properties change over time. The yield and
tensile strength increase, and the elongation decreases. There may be a return of the
yield point, which could cause stretcher strains to occur during forming of the steel.

What surface quality is available?
There are two surface qualities available, but Weirton Steel offers only Class 1.
Class 1 is intended for exposed applications where surface appearance is of primary
importance.
Class 2 is intended for unexposed applications and can be expected to have coil breaks,
stretcher stains and fluting. Surface may not be as good as Class 1.

What surface roughness can I expect when ordering
various finishes?

Can Cold-Rolled steel be ordered to hardness ranges?
Yes. Cold Rolled can be ordered to Commercial Quality with a maximum hardness of
Rockwell "B" 60 at time of shipment, Intermediate Quality with a 15 point
Rockwell "B" range, and Full Hard with a Rockwell "B" minimum of 84.
