For Immediate Release Weirton Steel Corp. today announced the retirement, effective April 1, of Craig T. Costello, executive vice president-manufacturing and chief operating officer. Costello also held a seat on the company’s board of directors. "Craig gave 34 years of superb service to the company. His experience in operations and knowledge of the manufacturing process were a valuable combination in both the mill and board room. Craig has been a leader in researching and implementing technological advancements which have helped us keep pace with the competition," said Richard K. Riederer, president and chief executive officer. "We thank Craig for his numerous contributions to Weirton Steel and for the time and generosity he devoted to many community activities, especially education and the United Way. We wish him all the best in retirement," said Riederer. Costello joined Weirton Steel in 1966. Since then, he held various supervisory positions within the mill, gaining additional responsibilities with each new assignment. In 1993, Costello reached executive management ranks when he was named vice president-operations. One year later, he was appointed executive vice president-manufacturing and in 1997, chief operating officer was added to his title. Costello earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia Northern Community College, a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Wheeling College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Steubenville.
