Continuous Training

Weirton Steel recognizes that employees need to continuously upgrade their skills to keep up with today's technology driven work environment.

That's why, in 1997, Weirton developed the Tuition Refund Program.

Employees qualifying for the program can get 75 percent of all tuition, registration and laboratory fees prepaid for any work-related education.  The remaining 25% will be paid upon successful completion of the course.

The Tuition Refund Program allows workers to develop within the company, exploring new challenges and furthering their career potential.  Weirton benefits from the fresh ideas these students bring back to the company.  It's an investment that pays off for everyone.

Mentorship Program

Weirton’s Mentorship Program matches management staff members with employees identified as particularly promising and self-motivated.

While not a guarantee of career advancement, Weirton’s mentorship program gives the management staff a vested interest in the success and career development of others, helping them push past obstacles and realize career goals.

Mentors and "mentees" meet regularly and informally to discuss work issues. Mentor support can take any number of forms. As situations arise, mentors suggest strategies or offer concrete assistance as the mentee’s advocate. More often, the mentor is a sounding board; providing a listening ear as the mentee works through his or her own solutions.

The Mentorship Program builds bridges between staff members at Weirton. Managers get the opportunity to reflect on priorities and reexamine basics, and mentees get valuable insight into the nature of more responsible positions within the company.
